Losing Sleep...Part I

Haven’t been on here for a while because quite frankly I have TOO much on my mind and TOO much to say about it.  I wouldn’t take the time to read all that I want to say either……..(as a matter of fact  I may have begun my last entry this way….)

So…let me try to sum up all the things that are making my heart literally race when I discuss them and actually cost me sleep…..

We’ll do one at a time…..today? The lease important…..relatively…The Pirates.

    1.   I am not a baseball/Pirate snob at all…….BUT

Just ONE time I’d like someone to say, “Phil…you were right.”

I’m the first to admit when I’m wrong and I do it often (for example I thought Chris Duffy was way better than Nate McClouth, and would be the next Andy Van Slyke, and lead us to years of glory)….. Anyway, I hate myself…have low self-esteem…always have….so when I have something right…it’s a personal achievement……

So just ONE time it would be nice to have someone tell me I had it right….just ONE of the dozens and dozens who disagreed with me about the Pirates the last 4 years…..

Look, I WANT everyone on the band wagon….I wanted them on the bandwagon 4 years ago…..well…it was more of a "band-72 Pinto" back then….but I knew it was coming. Soooo many friends and random bar patrons I’ve gone toe to toe with over the last few years…..it was NOT pretty…..especially after a few drinks.

”Huntington’s got it right..he’s on the right course….it’s all good….you’ll see”  I said.

I know baseball’s hard to watch for some. Especially when the baseball is bad…..so I have no problem with people coming aboard now that it’s going good…but have SOME respect for the people who always followed and told you it was coming…..(and maybe save a few tickets for us too….it sucks to all the sudden have trouble getting in when you were one of like 4,000 fans some rainy nights…)

*turns out trading McLouth wasn’t all that bad. It wasn’t a typical Pirate salary dump..was it??? WAS IT???? Go ahead…say it….you we’re right Phil! It’s not hard

….it allowed us to bring up that McCutchen guy. He’s doin ok. Might even win..what is that called?...the Triple Fucking Crown?.......AND we got Charlie Morton who had a great first half last year and hopefully after surgery will be back…AND Jeff Locke who is a stud in AAA and waiting to come up or be used as an asset to get something we do need. (oh…and we DID get Nate back and got rid of him AGAIN this year).

*turns out trading Freddy Sanchez was ok too…where is he now? And it allowed us to bring up that Walker kid….the one from Pittsburgh who is on fire now? Possible best 2B in the NL? And Tim Alderson is starting to turn the corner in the minors….and lets not forget the $$$ we saved in the aforementioned deals…and age…..

*and I really want all of you who argued with me about Pedro to stand up and tip your cap…””send him down” “he’s a bust” “he’s awful! Trade his lazy ass”  Two years into his career????? You really wanted another Jose Bautista to leave didn’t you? Pedro will lead the NL in homers soon…..mark my words. He has one less HR than that McCutchen guy……after a horrible start. Baseball is a game of patience people. Get some or be frustrated for years to come…rookies don’t jump right in like football and basketball…

*oh...back to McCutchen....should we still trade him for a #1 or #2 pitcher because he'll never really be a stud....and we could always just put Tabata out there......he's as good as if not better right? oh....the stuff that has been said to me and on sports talk shows is really amazing......I particularly love callers like the one last night who was talking about trading "that shortstop we got"......if you don't even know the names.....don't call.....you don't know shit. And while you're at it.....light yourself on fire.

All right enough..maybe I am a snob….but I just want patted on the back…or an eat n park smiley face Pirate cookie or something. I told whoever would listen that Nutting would spend money if the situation was right, …..and he has….and it’s fun…..so sit back and relax and enjoy….but make room for the loyal old timers.  

And along the way….silently apologize to Neal Huntington while you’re at it….the man stood strong amongst all of your bitching and stuck with his plan of stocking the system with talent and we are in a position now where we could be good for many many years….not just for a month by buying some old free agent 95% of you shouted for every year for the past 7 years or so…..get Manny Ramirez!!!! That’ll fix everything! 

Remember 2009? McLouth, Wilson, and Sanchez were my favorite Pirates too.....but if we didn't trade them 3 yrs ago.....we'd be on pace for ANOTHER losing season..... so admit it.....you were WRONG....they weren't salary dumps.....it wasn't the same old Pirates......Huntington WAS shrewd...Nutting DID spend to sign Alvarez....and Cole.....and Cutch...and Walker.......and Burnett......and our system IS stocked.....people DO want our prospects now.......we ARE in the same position as the Indians were in the 90's......his plan DID work.  He had nothing to do with all 19 years of losing..........JUST SAY IT!!!!!!

Oh….while I’m at it….I wasn’t far off on the Marc Andre Fleury guy either for the Penguins….. and Polamalu’s first year was kinda rough……but he turned out ok too I think.  (Why’d yinz trade up to get that Samoan loser! He’s too small…and he should cut his hair…..)

Ok….of course I’m not alone and thousands of Pittsburghers were on the same page as me. I'm no fortune teller…all I wan’t is for the people who were wrong to say so…… is that so hard???? My life is simple…..I ask for so little……eh.....who am I kidding.

         

Well, next up? Politics……it could get ugly.  Til then…RTMFJRB!!!!      Let’s Go Bucs!!!!!!! 4^th best record in baseball at the end of July?..... this
